Manchester City Set New Record In Chelsea FA Cup Showdown

Manchester City set new record during their match against Chelsea in the semi-final of the Emirate FA Cup. The defending champions managed to progress to the final for the second consecutive time after a 1-0 victory over the London-based club.

As with previous fixtures under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, the Cityzens were described the favourites before the game. However, they failed to meet expectations and did not perform at their typical level of excellence.

Chelsea demonstrated their superiority throughout the match. However, despite having numerous opportunities to score before halftime, they were unable to capitalize on them. Additionally, Nicholas Jackson failed to fulfill his role as the main striker for the Blues during the final 45 minutes, as he missed all the chances created by his teammates.

They were eventually punished for their failure to be clinical in front of goal as Bernardo Silva slotted home the only goal of the match in the 84 minutes and sent the Sky Blues to the final.

Manchester City Set New Unbeaten Record With A Victory Against Chelsea

Bernardo Silva’s goal is enough to create a new record for Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s are now 29 games without a defeat within the normal 90 minutes.

The Cityzens surpassed the previous record set between April 2017 and December 2017 during Pep Guardiola’s second season at the club. This year has been a blessing for the Premier League champions as they are yet to taste a defeat since their 1-0 lost against Aston Villa in December 2023.

In their last 29 matches, the Sky Blues have emerged the winners in 24 and the remaining five ended in draw. This is a new record for them and will have the opportunity to extend it on Thursday when they take on Brighton in the English top-flight league.

Similarly, Manchester City under Pep Guardiola’s leadership are the first team to appear in six consecutive semi-finals of the Emirate FA Cup. The City boss guided his team to the last four of the competition in his seven years managerial career at the club.

Having recorded a victory against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola will be determined to win the cup consecutively just like they won the Premier League title for the third consecutive years.

Pep Guardiola Praises Determined Manchester City Players After The Victory

Guardiola heaped praises upon his players following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea. Despite conceding that physical fatigue had contributed to their occasional loss of possession, he lauded the team’s unwavering dedication and perseverance in securing a place in the final.

“The game was tight,” the City boss said. “Chelsea had incredible transitions and controlled the ball well. We lost some easy balls because we were tired. Players made an incredible effort.”
