Rodri Is Ready To Extend His Contract, Joins City Top Earners

Manchester City midfielder Rodri Set To Extend His Contract At The Club

Rodri is ready to extend his contract and stay at Manchester City beyond his current agreement, as he relishes his career in England. The Spanish defensive midfielder initially joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2019 as a substitute for Fernandinho; however, he has since become a vital player for Pep Guardiola, having played more minutes than any of his teammates.

As a teenager, Rodri dedicated most of his time to playing for two prominent football clubs – Atlético Madrid and Villarreal. He made his senior debut as a professional footballer with Villarreal, replacing Denis Suárez in the second half of a 2-1 defeat against Rayo Vallecano on April 17th, 2016.

After establishing himself at Villarreal, he was sought after by Atlético Madrid in 2018 and spent a year playing under Diego Simeone before ultimately joining Manchester City, where he has since solidified his status as perhaps the best defensive midfielder in the world.

His contributions have been instrumental to the recent success of the reigning Premier League champions and they are always at their best with his presence on the pitch. This week, he extended his unbeaten streak to 67 games following the club’s 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

As per a Cityxtra report, Rodri is ready to extend his contract with Manchester City and will engage in negotiations for fresh agreements with the club post the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

The midfielder is expected to sign a five-year extension deal that includes provisions for him to become one of the highest-paid players at Manchester City. As per reports, his salary will match those of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, who currently hold the distinction of being the club’s top earners as well as in the entire Premier League.

Pep Guardiola and other members of the Manchester City squad are aware of Rodri’s vital role at the heart of City midfield, and have consistently lauded his contributions to the team.

“Rodri is so important,” the City manager said in March ahead of the Premier League match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

“Since Rodri has arrived, he has shown how he has grown up – though in terms of mentality, he has always been so strong. What can I say because I’ve said it so many times? He’s a really important player.”

Similar to other Manchester City players, Phil Foden was surprised by the remarkable impact of Rodri on the team. He adamantly asserted that he was unable to point out any flaws in the midfielder’s game and thus, according to him, Rodri is unequivocally the most exceptional holding midfielder in today’s football world.

“I’m lost for words. This guy, mate… he can do everything! I don’t see a weakness to his game! For me, he’s our most important player. For me, he’s the best holding midfielder in the world… 100%. He can really do everything,” Foden praises his teammate.
