What Is Man City’s Record At Tottenham Stadium Amid Title Race?

Manchester City must overcome the Tottenham Hotspur at their stadium to stand a chance of winning the Premier League title again amid the tight title race with Arsenal, who currently sit at the top of the league table.

The Cityzens are two wins away from their fourth Premier League title in a row. They will have to secure all the three points against Tottenham and West Ham United on the final match day. While many people are expecting the league champions to defeat West Ham comfortably, their match against the Spurs could go the other way.

Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled away against the Spurs; therefore, ahead of the title decider match, many are fans eager to know Man City’s record at the Tottenham stadium.

Manchester City are yet to record a victory at the stadium in their last four Premier League matches. Their last victory at the venue came in the FA Cup in January 2024. It seems the Cityzens will have to wait longer for a victory at the Stadium in all competitions, until Nathan Ake manged to convert Kevin De Bruyne’s cross to send City into the last 16 of the Emirate FA Cup.

In the Premier League, the last away victory by the Cityzens was in 2018. The Sky Blues defeated Spurs by a lone goal scored by Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian found the back of the net in the 6th minute of the match and that was enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to secure all the three points.

Noted that Pep Guardiola has only won two league matches against Tottenham away since he took over at the Etihad. Both victories were in 2018, six years ago. The Spanish manager has suffered defeat in all his away match since the 1-0 victory courtesy Riyad Mahrez’s goal.

City have lost five of their last seven matches against the Spurs away since 2016. The last defeat ended in 1-0. Former Tottenham captain Harry Kane scored the only goal in front of over 61,000 home supporters.

Manchester City’s awful results against the Spurs did not start in Pep Guardiola’s era. In fact, the Sky Blues always find it difficult to defeat Spurs at their stadium since the English top-flight was rebranded to the English Premier League in 1992.

According to Transfer Market, Man City have only won 6 matches and played 3 draws of their 26 appearances at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium since 1992/93 season.

They must, however, put the unimpressive history behind them on Tuesday to secure all the three points needed to push the title race to the final match of the season against West Ham United.

“Tuesday night is where it will be decided—and there will be that expectant audience where you think: can Tottenham play? Can they cause them problems? They can, but can they take their few chances they will get in the game?, former Manchester United player Gary Neville said in anticipation of the crucial Tottenham vs Manchester City match.

“We will be at Tottenham on Tuesday night and the inevitable may happen again. But the main thing for Arsenal is at least Man City have to go there and win,” he revealed on his Gary Neville Podcast
