Son Heung-min Breaks Silence On His Big Miss Against Man City

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has spoken about his big miss against Manchester City during the midweek Premier League match that ended in a defeat for the Spurs.

Ahead of the match, both Tottenham and their visitors had a lot to play for. While Manchester City needed a win to keep their dream of winning the league alive, their host also wanted the three points to have a chance of making the UEFA Champions League spot.

Pep Guardiola’s men emerged victorious, but the result could have gone the other way if Tottenham players, particularly Son had taken their chances during the match.

Bentancur and Kulusevski had chances to score, but the best opportunity was missed by Son, who found himself in a one-on-one situation with Stefan Ortega towards the end of the match. He, however, missed the opportunity due to a brilliant save by the Manchester City goalkeeper.

The 2-0 defeated against the Cityzens made Aston Villa the last team to qualify for the next season’s Champions League ahead Tottenham, who will settle for the Europa League if they defeat Sheffield United on Sunday.

“I’m also human,” Son told the Evening Standard, speaking about his costly error for the first time. “The keeper made a really good decision and made himself really big.

“But I take the responsibility not to score that big chance for the team, because the team was working really hard and trying to get a good result.”

Pep Guardiola and many Manchester City players heaped praises on Stefan Ortega for making such an incredible save. Kevin De Bruyne commended the German for his contribution to the team whenever he had an opportunity.

“He’s been really good. He came and not a lot of people knew where he came from or where he played, but he’s been really impressive. Whenever he’s played, for the team, he’s been really good. He had a lot more opportunities this year,” De Bruyne said via Sky Sports.
