We’ll Fight Until Last Minute – Carlo Ancelotti Sends Warning To Man City

Last season, the Premier League giants eliminated Real Madrid from the competition. The first leg of the encounter ended in a 1-1 draw but Real Madrid were humiliated at the Etihad during the reverse fixture. The 14-time champions were defeated 4-0 as City progressed to their second final in the competition.

Speaking ahead of another match between the two clubs, Carlo Ancelotti claimed that any team planning to win the competition must be ready to face Manchester City, therefore, they will be ready to fight until the end over the two legs.

“City are one of the favourites, we all think so and it will be very hard,” he said, according to 90mins

“The idea we have is to win the competition and, to do that, you must beat the best. City may be the best in Europe at the moment. It will be tough, of course, but if you want to be European champions, you must eliminate them.

“It’s going to be a great quarter-final and we will play them with confidence, fighting until the last minute as always. I don’t know what [City] think there, it will be similar to here. One year we won, and one year they won. We will see. It is a very close tie. Very close. I think there is no favourite.”

Reacting to the draw, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola described Real Madrid as the ‘king’ of the competition having won the cup 14 times. He claimed that playing against the Spanish giants every season is now becoming a tradition.

“It looks like a little bit of a tradition, three years in a row playing the kings of the competition,” he said, stating that it would be great if City could “arrive in a good moment but there are still a few weeks before the first game in Madrid.”
