Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insisted that another Premier League final day drama against West Ham United is possible because the match will be difficult like every other league matches.
Pep Guardiola could become the only coach to win four league title in a row on Sunday. The Spainard is a win away from leading his Manchester City team to win another league title; therefore, a victory against David Moyes’ West Ham United is a must for the Cityzens.
Speaking ahead of the match, Guardiola warned his players to prepare for another difficult match. He claimed that the match may be dramatic as their 2022 final day clash with Aston Villa and Sergio Agüero 2012 iconic moment.
In 2022, Manchester City were losing to Aston Villa by two goals with just 20 minutes left to play. It all seems that league title will be heading to Anfield Stadium as Pep Guardiola’s side needed a win to defend the title.
However, the moment of magic came in the 76 minutes when IIkay Gündogan found the back of the net to reduce the scoreline to 2-1. Five minutes later, Rodri cancelled Aston Villa’s two goals to make it 2-2 and the Cityzens won the game in the 81 minutes as IIkay Gündogan scored again.
“Everyone would love to be in our position but it won’t be easy,” Guardiola said. “I have the feeling it will be an Aston Villa game. We would love to be 3-0 up but it isn’t going to happen.”
“What happened against Aston Villa and QPR with the Aguero moment and the [Edin] Dzeko moment, I’m ready for a tough, tough game.”
The Manchester City manager said his players must give everything, fight for every ball and be ready. He added that the Man City supporters must also be there from the very beginning to the end.
“I want to put in the minds of the players. Look at Tottenham, how they fought for every ball, it was incredible aggression and commitment. It’s going to happen the same. Ourselves and our people have to be ready to support from the first minute and be with us,” Pep said via Mail Sport.
