However, despite their success, the team has also endured numerous devastating losses on match days, prompting the question: what is Man City’s worst defeat in the club’s history?

Wolverhampton 8 – 0 Manchester City On December 23rd 1933

Wolves lately have become victims of Manchester City’s domination in the English top-flight league, but history explains that they have on different occasions inflicted pains on the Cityzens and their supporters.

While Wolves recent win over Manchester City was a 2-1 victory at home in September, their biggest win over the Sky Blues was at the same venue many years ago.

On December 23rd, 1933, Manchester City’s visit to Molineux Stadium ended in a heartbreaking disaster as they conceded 8 goals without scoring a single goal against their host.

More than 20 years after the 8-0 defeat against Wolves, Manchester City suffered another lost which was recorded as one of the heaviest defeats in their history.

West Bromwich Albion 9 – 2 Manchester City, 21 September 1957

Whenever the question ‘what is Man City’s worst defeat?’ comes up, some reports trace it to the 8-0 defeat against Wolves, while some described the 9-2 humiliation by West Brom as the worst in the club’s history.

The Cityzens on the 21st of September 1957 arrived at the Hawthorns Stadium to play a first-division match in front of 26,080 attendance at the stadium. The day would later turn out to be one of the heartbreaking days for the City fans at the Stadium.

The Cityzens were humiliated by the host. However, contrary to the previous biggest defeat, they managed to score two goals.

Wolverhampton 8–1 Manchester City On Aug 18, 1962

For the second time in three decades, Wolverhampton Wanderers have etched their name in history as one of the teams responsible for handing Manchester City one of their most significant defeats in history.

At the start of the match, no one could tell that Wolves were on their way to make history and made the clash one of the memorable Division 1.

The 8-1 victory remains one of the best results in the club’s history, although their biggest win was a 10-1 victory over Leicester City in 1938.

Although, the Sky Blues have become a formidable team in the league courtesy to the taking over of the club by the Abu Dhabi Group, which has 81% per cent majority ownership of the City Football Group, they were once a struggling team in the league.

Three months after their biggest defeat, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan took over and Manchester City and they have become a dominant force both in England and across Europe.
