Phil Foden equals Cristiano Ronaldo, Lampard, Drogba record

Foden who was described as a world-class player by Pep Guardiola a few weeks ago justified the praises. He keeps Manchester City’s hope of winning the Premier League alive after firing the team to a deserving victory from a 1-1 scoreline in the first 40 minutes of the match.

While City were the first to score the first goal of the match through a powerful strike by Rodri, Aston Villa grew into the game a few minutes later, cancelled out Rodri’s goal, and looked like a team that would make things difficult for the defending champions at in front of their fans.

However, Phil Foden’s brilliance did not only restore Manchester City’s lead, he made sure that the visitors conceded a lot of goals before leaving the Etihad Stadium.

He opened his account with a fantastic free-kick. The Englishman spotted a gap between Aston Villa’s wall and brilliantly played the ball through it to give his side a 2-1 victory at halftime.

He added two more goals in the second half with the last one seeming to be the best of the night. The Cityzens secured a 4-1 victory to equal Liverpool’s league points, although the Reds have a game in hand against Sheffield United on Thursday.

On the back of his latest hat trick, Foden equals Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, and Didier Drogba three Premier League hat trick each.

According to TNT Sports, who wrote on social media: “At just 23 years old, Phil Foden has now scored as many Premier League hat-tricks as Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.”

The England international now has 21 goals and 10 assists for Manchester City in all competitions this campaign and will hope to replicate the form at the national level during the forthcoming EURO 2024.
