Pep Guardiola Sends Blunt Message To De Bruyne Over His Anger Issue

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has challenged Kevin De Bruyne to prove him wrong in the next game following his decision to take him off during the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Cityzens left Anfield with a point after enduring a difficult night which saw their first-choice goalkeeper subbed off due to injury after committing a foul leading to a penalty.

Mac Allister brilliantly converted the spot kick to cancel out John Stones’ opener and it seemed that the host would get the winning goal as City couldn’t stop their attacking threats towards the end of the last 45 minutes.

To reduce the pressure, Pep Guardiola had to subbed off Kevin De Bruyne and introduced Mateo Kovacic who can keep the ball and eventually take the pressure off his teammates.

The Belgian playmaker was not happy at being substituted and showed his anger by complaining to both Guardiola and members of the City backroom team before taking his seat on the bench.

Speaking about the incident, Pep Guardiola said he was not too bothered by De Bruyne’s reaction and challenged the playmaker to prove him wrong during the next game.

Guardiola said: “That’s good. Have a chance next game to prove it, to prove how wrong I was. We need a player who keeps the ball. It’s not about pressing. Kovacic is really good at that. We were happy with Kevin. It’s not a problem. We’re fine.”

Speaking about what played out during the match, the City boss said via the Mirror: “We started really well but they are an incredible team. We had our moments, they had theirs. The way they play it is not easy. We take the point. First half we had momentum, lots of chances first half.

“And after we gave away the penalty, we suffered. It was a good game for the spectators.”
