Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola stated that the characters of Man City players were a reason behind the successful first season of Erling Haaland and the Norwegian will continue to score more goals with the support of his teammates.

Erling joined the Cityzens from Borussia Dortmund and immediately adapted to the demand of the Premier League, scoring loads of goals and breaking many records. The striker helped his side to win the third consecutive Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in their history.

This season despite suffering an injury setback which kept him away for almost two months, the Norwegian is the highest goal-scoring player in the League with 16 goals, two above the closest player.

He scored a brace against Everton during the last game and will hope to continue scoring goals during the Round of 16 UEFA Champions League match against Copenhagen tonight.

Speaking ahead of the match, Pep Guardiola revealed the factors behind Haaland’s success at Man City so far.

“Of course, he came here after we had won two Premier Leagues [in a row) but he adapted really well coming here,” Pep Guardiola pointed out.

“I [also] think we have an incredible group of players here, great characters who embrace the new ones who are coming.

“Like this season, Mateo Kovacic, Jeremy, Matheus, Josko… they need two days, no in fact one day and they are part of the group. That comes because we have an incredible captain and staff.

“Erling felt that straight away. Immediately he arrived he was part of this [group]. And after that it is play, don’t worry we have time. You didn’t come for a few days it’s for three, four years because of the contract he signed.

“We said you have time. We don’t put pressure on him and say you have to score goals for us,” Pep said.
