Pep Guardiola Provides Manuel Akanji Injury Update As Man City Suffer Fresh Blow

Pep Guardiola has provided Manuel Akanji injury update ahead of their trip to St James’ Park in a Premier League encounter with Newcastle United. The Cityzens had been without a first-team player for the first part of the campaign and they will be without a quiet number of players again on Saturday evening.

Manuel Akanji injury against Huddersfield Town

Among those players who will not be available for selection is Akanji who was substituted during the FA Cup match against Huddersfield Town. The Swiss defender was forced off the pitch and added to the growing list of wounded players in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Speaking ahead of the match away to Newcastle, and providing Manuel Akanji injury update to the press, the City boss said: “Yeah, Manuel Akanji as well is injured.”

“Manu as well, yeah he had an action against Huddersfield, he’ll be some weeks out, a few weeks. I don’t know about the FA Cup against Spurs, or Burnley, if he’ll be ready.”

“Now we are lucky that we don’t have games in the next 10 days, after tomorrow’s game against Newcastle, but we will see in Abu Dhabi with a good weather how they feel.”

After confirming the situation regarding Manuel Akanji injury, Guardiola also stated that Erling Haaland will not play until probably the end of January. The Catalan said the Norwegian will be out more than what was expected at the beginning of the foot injury.

“Yes, (he’s had) a little bit of disturbing problems in his feet. It’s fine but the doctors decided to stop for one week and maybe restart in Abu Dhabi.

“Hopefully at the end of this month, he’ll be ready. It was a little bit more than we expected in the beginning. It’s the bone. It needs time. With every injury, you can do whatever you want but it’s a question of time.”

After the match at St. James’s Park on Saturday, Manchester City will head to Abu Dhabi for warm-weather training. They will return to action on January 26 with an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
