Pep Guardiola’s team will welcome Newcastle United to the Etihad Stadium in the Emirate FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday. The Cityzens will hope to emerge victorious to keep the hope of defending the title alive.

Newcastle United on the other hand would hope to defeat the defending champions and send them out of another cup competition after the eliminated City in the League Cup.

A victory for Eddie Howe’s side will largely depend on some of his star players and Bruno Guimaraes has been identified as one of those players.

According to Pep Guardiola, Guimaraes is an exceptional player and one of the most complete holding midfielders in the world. The City manager commended the aggressiveness of the Brazilian.

“He is an exceptional holding midfielder,” Guardiola said at a press conference on Friday as reported by Metro. “He is aggressive, with the ball or without the ball.

“At set pieces, he’s aggressive and is a real, complete holding midfielder since being at Lyon and now at a club who want to grow up and up. I’m sure he’s part of the project for the next years. Definitely.”

Guimaraes joined Newcastle United from Lyon in a £40million deal in January 2022 and immediately became an important player for Eddie Howe. This campaign, he has only missed one game due to suspension, therefore, he’s expected to start against City on Saturday.
