Pep Guardiola’s boss last season defeated both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on their way to become champions and there are probabilities that the top teams will cross paths again this campaign. Guardiola, however, believes that his side are ready for the task ahead.

The City boss said this during a post-match conference on Wednesday after a comfortable 3-1 against Copenhagen in the 2nd leg of the competition round of 16. The Sky Blues qualified on 6-2 aggregate, having defeated their opponents 3-1 during the 1st leg.

Pep Guardiola also commended his players for being at their best always for the past seven years. He stressed that their recent success in Europe was due to his players’ ability to be consistent.

He said: “We are a team that believes we can do it. Listen, we’re competing with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but the important thing is that seven years in a row we are here. Consistency.

“I felt the people when we arrived from a club like Barcelona and Bayern Munich – where they demand to always be there – I felt the club, not the players, didn’t feel it.”

Pep Guardiola added that Man City are performing at top levels now because the club management gave him enough time and believed in him when they were eliminated from the competition on different occasions.

“We are here because we needed time. People, and managers don’t get time, hierarchies don’t get time. But they gave us time to lose against Monaco, lose against Liverpool, lose against Tottenham – all (part of) the process to do it, because when a team comes from never ever being in that position, you cannot do it.”
