Pep Guardiola Disagrees With Rio Ferdinand Over Manchester Derby

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola disagrees with the prediction of Rio Ferdinand about the forthcoming Manchester Derby. The manager believes that the match will be difficult contrary to the claim that City will comfortably win against their local rivals.

Manchester United will on Sunday, March 3, visit Etihad Stadium. Erik ten Hag’s men will be hoping to put last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against Fulham behind them and will hope to put a dent on the Cityzens’ aim of retaining the Premier League title for the fourth time in a row.

However, ten Hag did not have a good record against Pep Guardiola’s side. The last two matches between the duo ended in defeats for the Red Devils. These include the 3-0 lost at the Old Trafford earlier this season and the Emirate FA Cup final defeat against City at the Wembley Stadium last season.

According to Rio Ferdinand, nothing extra-ordinary will come out of the Sunday Manchester derby, he expects the reigning Premier League champions to once again inflict defeat pain on their Red Devils.

“It’s going to be a long day, man. It’s hard enough to go to the Etihad anyway, but we’re going there with no confidence. I think we get beat by two goals. Convincingly,” he said, predicting the outcome of the match.

However, Pep Guardiola wouldn’t write-off his opponent. The City manager claimed that the match will be difficult and it will be a totally different game from the City 6-2 comfortable victory over Luton Town on Tuesday.

“[United is] a completely different game. Today they play in a completely different game, it’s another game the way they attack will be completely different,” the manager replied when asked if both Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne will replicate their performances against Luton on Sunday.

“United game is a completely different one, will be tough. They defend differently and have experienced players. Now we have two days off, people don’t see each other, have to refresh our minds and legs and have two days to prepare for the game,” he told the newsmen according to MEN.
