Mikel Arteta Tells Arsenal Players His Plan For Man City

Mikel Arteta has given his players a task that might seem difficult but achievable as they prepare to take on the Premier League champions at the Etihad on Sunday.

Without a doubt, Manchester City have over the years become a dominant force in the English top flight but Mikel Arteta is planning to end the reign of Pep Guardiola’s side, telling his players to be ready to be at the same or be above Manchester City’s level in the league.

According to the Arsenal manager, while his players have been trying to compete with Manchester City in the past two or three seasons, they still need to do more if they want to become the league champions at the end of the season.

Last season, the Cityzens were able to steal the league from the Gunners who occupied the top spot for most parts of the season. Similarly, Arsenal are the current league leaders with a point above Manchester City in third position.

However, Mikel Arteta will try to avoid a repeat of what happened last campaign, urging his players to brace up for the challenges ahead as they have just 10 league matches to play this season.

“We had some clashes in the FA Cup and the Community Shield. They have raised the bar to levels not seen before in football. You have to keep up with that pace and that is what we are trying to do,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference.

“We learned from the level. It’s the level we want to be at. We have been getting closer in the last two-three years. We need to close that gap and try to be better than them.

“They have earned the right for everyone to look at them as an example. It has raised our level and demands [us] to try to be like them and beat them.”
