Midfield Or Defense? Rico Lewis Reveals His Preferred Position To Guardiola

Rico Lewis is one of the most versatile players in Pep Guardiola’s squad. He has played different roles on the pitch based on the instructions of his boss, he, however, has a preferred position.

The youngster who recently made his international debut revealed that he would like to keep his place in the midfield despite that he can play as a full-back.

Rico Lewis came through into the first team as a full-back. He can play as a right-back and left-back but his ability to play as a holding midfielder wouldn’t go unrecognised by Pep Guardiola.

“I’ve been a manager for 14, 15 years and lucky to train one of the best players in the world in Barcelona. “To find a player like him playing in the pockets, how he has to move as a holding midfielder, moving in the spaces, he is one of the best I’ve ever trained by far,” the Catalan praised the youngster, according to a report by Sky Sport.

While the Man City boss enjoys watching Rico as a midfielder, the youngster also enjoys playing in midfield and has made his intentions to secure a place in City midfield known.

Speaking to The National, he said: “Here at City, it’s probably better to be more versatile because of the formations we play and the different positions I can play in, and for me, at the moment I can get more minutes on the pitch playing in different positions.”

“But at some point, I hope to settle into a position and I do like playing midfield the most.”

According to him, nothing should stop City from replicating last season’s success. He said: “With the players we’ve got, there’s no reason why we don’t aim to try to win everything all over again. It’s not good enough at Manchester City just to win something once and I think we can do it again.”
