Man City Suffer Injury Setback, Top Players To Miss FA Cup Match

Manchester City has suffered injury setback as some top players might be unavailable for selection on Saturday when they will take on Newcastle United in the quarter-final of the Emirate FA Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s side are the last winners of the competition, they won the cup alongside the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League trophy last season to claim the historical treble.

If they are to proceed to the last four of the competition this campaign, they will need to overcome Newcastle United which eliminated them in this season’s Carabao League Cup last September.

Unfortunately for the Cityzens, at least three first-team players will be unavailable on Saturday. Jack Grealish remains sideline and will not be ready for the match.

Similarly, the City first first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson will be unavailable, even though he would likely start from the bench if he would be fit for the match. This is due to Pep Guardiola’s policy. The City manager is fond of playing his second-choice goalkeeper in cup competitions except the UEFA Champions League.

Kevin De Bruyne is another player who will likely miss the match following the announcement made by Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco. He claimed that the midfielder has been suffering from an underlying groin issue, therefore, he was not included in the Belgium squad to play this international break.

“He’s been playing with a minor groin issue during the last games. Yesterday I spoke to the doctor and Kevin and we decided that the risk is too big. It’s better to give him time to recover well at City and then have him ready for the Euros.”

With the development, Guardiola will be managing his side injury setback by not involving De Bruyne on Saturday, this will give the midfielder an opportunity to recover properly ahead of the Arsenal match at the Etihad.
