Man City Injury: Pep Guardiola Confirms Who Will Play Against Tottenham

Pep Guardiola has given an update on the Man City injury list, revealing the players that will be available for selection during a visit to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Emirate FA Cup.

Erling Haaland, the record breaker and John Stones: Man City injury

The City boss has been without many first-team squad players in recent weeks and will be unable to call on many of the injured players tomorrow. Although, there was a significant improvement in their development processes.

Speaking during his pre-match conference, the Catalan revealed that Ederson is ready to play again after he was forced off at St James’ Park in their last Premier League match against Newcastle United.

The Brazilian suffered a nasty gash in a collision but Guardiola said: “He’s okay now,” for tomorrow’s clash. However, it must be noted that the goalkeeper may sit on the bench due to Guardiola’s choice to always play the second keeper in domestic cup competitions. Therefore, Stefan Ortega Moreno will likely start against Tottenham.

John Stones is another player who made it out of Man City injury list. The Englishman returned to training and he is in contention for selection after recovering from an injury he sustained against Everton.

“He will be [in contention for] team selection but he is back with us,” Guardiola said but revealed that Manuel Akanji who was subbed off in the third-round FA Cup win over Huddersfield will not be available. “Akanji is out and John has come back,” he said.

The match will also come too soon for Erling Haaland, who also returned to training early this week. The Norwegian has not played for the Cityzens since the beginning of December when he sustained an injury in a defeat against Aston Villa.

“He’s on the verge of coming back,” Guardiola added. “Tomorrow, still he is not ready but he is close.

“Some training sessions he has trained in the last two days. It’s not perfect so we wait a little bit more,” Guardiola confirmed that the striker remains on the Man City injury list for the crucial Tottenham match.
