Man City Future: Guardiola Names Kelvin De Bruyne Replacement

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has named Kelvin De Bruyne replacement among his current squad players even though it might be difficult to fill the space that the Belgian will leave at City at the end of his career.

De Bruyne over the years has become a great player for Manchester City, registering his name as one of the club legends who contributed to their modern success.

His vision, and ability to dictate and influence matches make him a better player among his colleagues, however, Pep Guardiola revealed that Phil Foden has the potential to replace him in the near future.

Foden a City academic graduate has developed into a versatile player over the past few years. He can play in many positions on the pitch of which Kevin De Bruyne’s role is one of them.

To the City boss, the Englishman has the talent to succeed De Bruyne and even Bernardo Silva, although to achieve this solely depends on him and how determined he wants to be as successful as a player.

“He will take over from Kevin (De Bruyne) and Bernardo (Silva) in the future – that is going to happen,” Guardiola said. “It’s a question of process. Every season the experience he gets, he will have to lead for the other ones.”

Guardiola said after watching another masterclass performance of Foden in a 1-3 win against Brentford. The Englishman operated alongside Kevin De Bruyne in the midfield, whilst also drifting into wider positions at times and breaking lines with his sharp runs.

He was named the man of the match after scoring a hat-trick to secure all the 3 points in a dramatic comeback win against the Bees.

“Still, he is being led but there will be a moment. I have to say something that since day one playing on the field, he feels mature and feels ‘I don’t care, I have enough experience and I don’t feel the pressure’”, Guardiola said after the match.

“A player from the Academy with this level and consistency for many years. I don’t know how many trophies all the ones we won, 15 or 16 at that age. As much as he is focused on that he will have a successful and long career, but it depends on him.

“How much he wants to be focused on his job and every detail in his life he can do whatever he wants.”
