Leonardo Bonucci Couldn’t Believe What Man City Defender Did For Pep Guardiola

The present Man City defender collection costs the club a huge amount of money. Since Pep Guardiola became the club manager, a lot of money has been spent on defenders and almost all of the players have so far justified the money spent on them.

However, former Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci said John Stones impressed him the most and what he has done for the Sky Blues are unimaginable. The 36-year-old Italian international who has registered his name as one of the best defenders to ever play the game of football praised Stones’ performance and leadership in Manchester City team.

The Man City defender was incredible in 2023 and was instrumental to the success of the team. Pep Guardiola discovered his ball-playing ability and partnered him at the heart of City’s defence. The tactics worked perfectly and led to City dominating the English league and the European football.

Speaking to The Sun, the 36-year-old said he rejected joining City in 2016 even though they were ready to pay £100 million. He claimed that the club turned their attention to Stones and got him for £47.5m.

Praising the Man City defender, he said: “I struggle to find a deficiency in players like Stones, who have won what he did. He’s a leader, reads the game well, has rhythms, and is intelligent.

“He’s a technical player and a nasty defender. At City, Guardiola saw a perfect role for him, to be more of a ball-playing defender… Stones has done great things and I like him a lot. He’s one of the best in the world.”

John Stones is currently out of selection for Pep Guardiola after sustaining an injury in the 2-1 win against Everton. The playing time of the Englishman has been affected greatly this season due to injuries. He, however, hopes that he will return to full fitness very soon.

“So good to finish the year with a win, what a year it’s been!! Gutted I couldn’t be involved today but I’ll be back soon,” he posted after his side comfortably defeated Sheffield United in the last game of the 2023.
