Erling Haaland’s injury was a big blow for Manchester City towards the end of 2023. The strike and many other first-team players were not available for selection due to various injuries sustained.

Erling Haaland's injury update

While many players, including Kevin De Bruyne who was out for more than four months, returned to the pitch in early January, Erling couldn’t do the same, in fact, he was not allowed to train with the rest of the squad at a point.

Speaking after he was named the best men’s player for 2023 at the Globe Soccer Awards, Erling Haaland admitted that being away for a long time has made things boring for him. He claimed that he hoped to return from the injury very soon and continue doing what he does best.

“I hope to be back really soon from injury, I’m getting bored of not playing!” The No.9 said, having missed the last nine matches for City and might not be available against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on the 26th of January.

Haaland injury setback did not prevent him from emerging victorious from an 11-man shortlist that also included teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva to be crowned the best player in Dubai.

Pep Guardiola will hope to have a fully fit squad as they are getting into the crucial part of the season which will determine how successful they will be in 2024.

“I have the feeling we still want to do it. “The way we behaved against Huddersfield [showed that] the team is alive. Why should we not try it again?

“We won three times in a row, five in the last six, so why not? It’s really important because Liverpool are flying over the last month and we have to go to Anfield so it’s better to be close to them.”

Speaking about Haaland’s injury and many other first-squad players who were not available for selection recently, he said he’s “waiting on Manu [Akanji], John [Stones], and Erling to come back as soon as possible when the Champions League is coming and FA Cup is here to use everyone.”
