Erling Haaland and Mbappe are undoubtedly the two superstars to watch out for as football legends, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi move toward the end of their career.
For many years, there have been debates about the best player between Messi, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, and Ronaldo who won the award five times and the debate may continue after their retirement, but this time, between Haaland and Mbappe.
In fact, the debate has started dominating football discourse as former Barcelona striker David Villa was recently asked to pick between the Norwegian and the 2018 World Cup winner France international.
In a fun ‘this or that’ segment with GOAL, Villa’s response to Mbappe or Haaland was: “Mbappe”
Villa picked the PSG player over the Manchester City striker as his favourite footballer, although but had quite impressive records in their career.
Mbappe, 25, has 26 goals and four assists in 25 games across competitions, while the 23-year-old Haaland has 19 goals and five assists in 22 outings across competitions.
Both Haaland and Mbappe have achieved success with their clubs. Mbappe had won all possible domestic trophies for PSG but failed to lead them to European glory despite having some of the most talented footballers as teammates including Lionel Messi.
Haaland on the other hand led Manchester City to their first-ever treble, including the first ever UEFA Champions League trophy won against Inter Milan in Istanbul.
However, Mbappe has recorded more success with his national team, winning the World Cup in 2018 and top scorer in the last edition of the competition, but the Norwegian continues to struggle to get his country to a major international tournament.
