There are many world-class players at Manchester City, but the Cityzens would agree that John Stones over the past few months has become Guardiola’s valuable player, therefore, his return to training ahead of the away match against Tottenham Hotspur is a big boost for City.
The Cityzens will play Tottenham away in the next match of the FA Cup round. Interestingly, Pep Guardiola has not won a match or even scored a goal at White Hart Lane. So, the curse must be broken if the Spanish will be guiding his side to the later stage of the competition they won against their local rivals last season.
Guardiola jokingly spoke about the bad record at the Stadium back in May. After guiding his side to a historical treble, he was asked what he has left to achieve, he jokingly replied: “Score a goal against Spurs away. It’s why I stay, I want to beat Spurs away.”
For City to get a victory away against Tottenham on January 26, many important players must be available for selection, including Guardiola’s valuable player, in person of John Stones.
The Englishman bossed the midfield last season, helping City to record one of, if not the most glorious year in the club’s history. His partnership with Rodri at the heart of City midfield gave the team the balance both defensively and allowed Rodri to effortlessly contribute to the attack.
The defender has not been a regular for the Premier League champions this season due to many fitness issues. But it was reported that he joined his teammates during a training session in Abu Dhabi where they were having their Premier League’s annual winter break.
This is great news for City which recently welcomed Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku back from injury. The Belgians are important for the team should they try to replicate the 2023 success.
Similarly, Erling Haaland is expected to return after the winter break after he recently withdrew from training as he suffered a major setback with his fitness.
