Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sent his first message to Claudio Echeverri who joined the Cityzens from River Plate and followed in the footsteps of Julian Alvarez.
Just as Alvarez did a few years ago, Echeverri signed a contract with the Premier League champions but will remain at River before moving to the Etihad Stadium in January next year.
Echeverri, who only turned 18 on January 2, has been described as a generational talented midfielder. The youngster captained the Argentina under-17 to the World Cup in November 2023 and he put on an impressive performance, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Brazil.
Although they were later eliminated on penalties in the semi-finals by Germany, the young midfielder was compensated for his performance as he won the bronze ball for being the third top scorer of the tournament.
The youngster made 23 appearances for Argentina’s under-17s, scoring 13 times, and was even given the opportunity to train with the senior squad to gain more experience.
Speaking ahead of their clash with Tottenham, Pep Guardiola sent his first message to Claudio Echeverri, congratulating him for signing for the club.
“Congratulations to be part of our club,” Pep said. On potential signings before the transfer window, he added: “I don’t think so.”
Manchester City will travel to White Hart Lane on Friday as Pep Guardiola’s men will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Emirate FA Cup.
“It’s a final and it’s tough at Spurs. We have played well there, but not scored there yet. They have been better than us so far,” Guardiola said ahead of the tough away match.
