Pep Guardiola has described one of his players as the best midfielder in the whole world. According to him, nobody among the current holding Midfielders comes close to Rodrigo Hernandez.

Rodri has become an important player in the Manchester City squad, apart from the fact that he does his work excellently at the heart of City midfield, he has been scoring important goals for the reigning Premier League champions.

The Spanish midfielder scored the crucial equalising goal against Chelsea last weekend to secure a point for Pep Guardiola’s side and prevented a first defeat at the Etihad for the first time in many months.

After the City avoided a defeat against the Blues, It is now over 12 months – against Tottenham on February 5 last year – since they lost a match in which the 27-year-old played.

However, despite his incredible performances and records, particularly his winning goal against Inter Milan last season which gave the City their first-ever Champions League trophy, Rodri rarely steals the limelight and has been living in the shadow of Kelvin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Guardiola claimed that he would always like Rodri not to get the media’s attention. He, however, declared the Spanish player as the best in the world in his position.

The City manager said: “I would say if the holding midfielder doesn’t get the same appreciation as the strikers or the number 10 then that is good. When a holding midfielder has a lot of appreciation, it is not good.

“The holding midfielder has to play positive, for him and for the team, and make the team play. This is the role for the holding midfielders. All the highlights have to be for the guys up front who score goals and make assists and so on.

“But Rodri always has the ability in important moments to score goals so he’s an unbelievable player. He’s the best midfield player in the world currently by far because he is able to do everything.

“What a signing. It’s difficult to understand how we could have done what we have done in recent years without him.”
