Gary Lineker Ignores Man City, Predicts Next Premier League Winners

Contrary to the belief of many football pundits, Gary Lineker believes that the next Premier League winners are Mikel Arteta’s boys. He claimed that he wouldn’t change his choice despite the recent poor performance of Arsenal.

Premier League winners between Man City and Arsenal predicted

The BBC presenter’s prediction comes after the Gunners suffered back-to-back league defeats against West Ham United and Fulham. The defeats were setbacks for the hope of being declared the Premier League winners at the end of the season. They are now sitting behind Man City at the fourth position despite City having played a game less.

“I did [pick Arsenal],” Lineker said about his prediction before the league started and insisted that he would not change his choice. “I did, only to be contrary to you two who had both gone for the obvious choice of Manchester City, I still suspect it probably will be Manchester City, but I’m not changing, even though I’d rather Tottenham win the league and Aston Villa are in there.”

Compare Man City And Arsenal’s Next Five League Matches

It is the general knowledge that the Premier League winners are only known in the second half of the season due to the competitiveness of the league. Many teams including the 2022/23 Arsenal team have lost the league title to Manchester City towards the end of the season.

However, the next few games could separate the title contenders from the teams that would eventually stand no chance in the league race. And to be among the title contenders, Arsenal will need to up their games.

Two of their next five matches are against Liverpool, one in the league and the other in the FA Cup. Also, the Gunners will play West Ham United in February immediately after the Liverpool game. The other two are a home match against Crystal Palace and an away match against Nottingham Forest.

It seems the Gunners have busy and tricky weeks ahead of them compared to Man City which will play Huddersfield in the FA Cup next weekend, followed by a league match against out-of-form Newcastle. Burnley, Brentford, and Everton will then follow.
