The midfielder who recently returned to the pitch has contributed 9 G/A assists in 7 appearances in all competitions for the Cityzens and his form came as a surprise for many football lovers including his teammates.

“To be honest, if you’re out for five or six months normally it takes you a little bit of time but… the way he was working, to be honest, with the physios, you could see in the first few months he was working so hard and giving everything to be ready. To be fair, he was straight away,” De Bruyne teammate Nathan Ake said in a recent interview.

Meanwhile, the Belgian claimed that he has been working hard to improve himself, stressing that he’s gradually getting to where he needs to be.

“I’m getting to where I need to be. I feel good and I’m happy to be back in the Champions League,” De Bruyne said after a comfortable 3-1 against Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League Round 16.

The Belgian contributed to all the three goals scored by his side. He put the ball in the bottom corner of the net to give Manchester City the lead and set up both Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden later in the match.

“I still need to get a bit of the rhythm – game by game – but the club, the manager, the medical department and I are managing it really good.

“I feel I’m getting better and better. I know I can get better. I just have to keep working and help the team,” De Bruyne added.

“It [the injury] was a big blow in the summer, but I tried to change the disappointment to something positive, and looking back at it now it was nice to have a reset.

“In a way, it was good to reset my body and my mind – maybe it can help me in the future.”
