‘I Don’t Want To Suffer’ – Top Manager In Fear, Prays To Avoid Man City In The Champions League

Pep Guardiola’s has undoubtedly done a great job at the Etihad to turn the Cityzens into a dominant force in the English top-flight league and make sure that Man City in the Champions League are now a completely different club.

Before Pep Guardiola’s tenure, Manchester City were eliminated in the early stages of the competition on multiple occasions. Despite achieving success in domestic tournaments, they struggled to make a significant impact in European competitions.

In the 2015/16 season, which could be described as the best for the Cityzens in Europe before Guardiola, they could only reach the semi-final.

However, since Pep Guardiola was appointed the manager in the 2016/17 season, the team has advanced to one semi-final and two finals, emerging victorious in one of the finals, thus securing the club’s inaugural major European trophy.

Although they only won one Champions League title under Pep, the Premier League champions stand out for their unmatched dominance on the field. They have inflicted suffering on numerous teams, and Girona manager, Mitchel, is determined to avoid a similar fate for his team in the upcoming season.

Speaking during a new interview with Spanish outlet Cadena SER, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Mitchel who guided Girona to top four in the Spanish La Liga, prayed to avoid Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League next season not only because of the connection between the two clubs, but an attempt to avoid any potential humiliation.

“Any team you are talking about at the level European, from Bayern to Juve, are teams that I have seen on TV every Wednesday and makes me excited,” he said.

“I would not like Manchester City to be our rival because we have some connection and apart from that, I do not want to suffer.”

The Cityzens were eliminated from the competition in the quarter-final by Real Madrid this campaign. The defending champions were unable to overcome the Spanish giants despite all the efforts to secure a victory during the return leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Real Madrid defended all through after breaking the deadlock at the 12 minutes of the match through Rodrygo’s effort. The match proceeded to penalty after Kevin De cancelled Rodrigo’s strike. Carlo Ancelotti’s men were able to defeat Man City during the shootout to progress to the next stage of the competition.

The Sky Blues have already secured another Champions League football and will be determined to do better next season and probably win the trophy for the second time in three years.
